ALERT 09-06: SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

The Maplewood Police Department has received recent reports of individuals going door-to-door identifying themselves as "chimney inspectors". These individuals advise residents that Maplewood Township or Essex County laws require an annual inspection of their chimney. No such law is in effect.

Residents are asked to promptly call the police should they encounter any activity that they believe is suspicious or is a possible "scam". 

Remember, never let anyone in your home that you have not invited to be there.


                          ALERT 09-05: SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

October 23, 2009: Maplewood Police Department Press Release
 
The Maplewood Police Department is curently investigating several reports of an unknown naked male walking in the rear yards of the condominium complex located on Elmwood Ave. and Meadowbrook Pl. The male was reportedly seen knowcking on several rear doors on the morning of October 19th at approximately 6:00 AM. He was described as being a black male, possibly in his 30's, approx. 5'10" tall with a medium build. He was reportedly wearing some type of mask along with work style boots and white socks. Area residents are encouraged to call the police department immediately if they observe this subject or any other suspicious activity in the area.


                                ALERT 09-04: THEFT ALERT

On Weds. night (5/27/09) at 7:35 pm a husband and wife pulled their car into a driveway on Fairview Tr. in Maplewood.  As the couple were exiting thier car near the garage a black male approached from the passenger side, reached in the car, and grabbed the woman's purse that was located in the front seat area. The black male then ran to an older model white four door car that was waiting for him at the end of the driveway.  The car was last seen driving down Sagamore Rd. towards Wyoming Ave. The man that grabbed the purse is described as a black male with a muscular build, approximately 250lbs., 6 feet tall, and wearing a white t-shirt. The man and woman in the car were not injured in the incident.    
 


 

 ALERT 09-03: ROBBERY ALERT

 

On Thursday May 14, at about 9:30 pm a 20 year old female was walking on South 4th St in Maplewood near Essex Ave when she was approached by a black male who demanded the woman turn over her purse to him.  The female declined to give the male the purse and a brief struggle ensued over the purse.  The black male then displayed a handgun to the woman and ripped the purse from the woman’s shoulder.   The actor was last seen running to a small, newer model, silver car and entered into the passenger side door of the car.  The small silver car was last seen traveling south on Essex Ave.  The female victim was not injured during the robbery.  The actor is described as a black male, 15 to 17 years of age, thin build, 5’7” tall, with black hair in corn rows or short braids.  He was wearing a baseball cap, red baggy shirt and dark jeans. 




                        
                        ALERT 09-02: SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY


The Maplewood Police Department is investigating a suspicious incident involving a ten year old. The child was reportedly approached by an unknown vehicle driven by a white male with light brown hair and a mustache. The driver reportedly pulled over and spoke to the child who became scared and ran home to report the incident. There is no indication at this time that the driver attempted to lure the child into the vehicle. The vehicle was described as a silver/blue SUV. The incident occurred in the early evening in the area of Euclid Avenue in Maplewood.

ALERT 09-01: ROBBERY ALERT

On Tuesday January 27, 2009 at approximately 4:52 PM a 16 year old Maplewood youth reported that he was robbed at gun point of his coat, backpack and baseball cap, while walking on Irvington Ave. near Coolidge Rd. The suspect, who fled on foot, was described as a 17-20 year old black male with a dark complexion, 5’8” tall, medium build and was wearing a black baseball cap with a red and black mid-eastern style scarf over it, a red Northface jacket, blue jeans and black sneakers. He was armed with what was described as a semi-automatic handgun. A composite sketch of the suspect was completed by the New Jersey State Police
