June 26, 2008-Assault/ Possession of Weapon Arrest: Binyamin Baiyina, 21, of  South Harrison St., East Orange, NJ, was arrested and charged with Possession of a Weapon and Aggravated Assault on Thursday after an altercation on Peachtree Rd.  Mr. Baiyina was involved in a brief fight with an unknown subject on Peachtree Rd at about 1:30 in the afternoon.  Both parties left the scene after the fight; however Baiyina returned a short time later in possession of a large kitchen knife and approached a second individual from Peachtree Rd.  The victim was able to retreat into his home before being assaulted and called Police.  Baiyina was taken into custody and the knife was recovered at the scene.  He was charged with Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose and Aggravated Assault.  He is being held on $5000.00 bail in the Essex County Jail.

 

June 26, 2008-Stolen Bicycles:Two bicycles were removed from a garage on Essex Ave sometime during the evening on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.  The bikes were described as a man’s style silver Mongoose and a red BMX style bicycle.  The items were in an unlocked garage and unknown actors removed them during the overnight.

 

June 28, 2008-CDS/Drug Paraphernalia Arrest: David Sheplak, 35, of West Lincoln Ave., Roselle Park, NJ, was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of crack cocaine after being stopped at Springfield Ave and Chancellor Ave.  Police observed Sheplak acting suspiciously and detained him for a field interview.  During the stop it was discovered that Sheplak was in possession of the contraband and he was arrested. He was later ROR.

 

June 28, 2008-Narcotics Arrest: Kenneth Martin, 48, of Astoria Pl., Union, NJ was arrested and charged with possession of crack cocaine.  Martin was stopped after patrols observed him urinating on the wall of a business on Springfield Ave.  During the field interview it was determined that Martin was in possession of a small amount of crack cocaine and was arrested. He was later ROR.

June 30, 2008-Stolen leaf blower:The owner of R&G Contracting reported that a backpack style leaf blower was stolen from in front of a home on Sommer Ave while his company was doing work on the house.  The incident occurred at about 12:15 in the afternoon and the actor is described as a black male, mid to late 20’s, 5’7” tall, medium build, wearing blue jeans and a white t-shirt.  The victim indicated that he and his workers were up on the roof of the house when the theft occurred.   The suspect was last seen getting into a gray Nissan Altima and turned north on Valley St towards South Orange.
